Four Winds' contributions to Rosehill College

Rosehill College Sports Department: Basketball

Four Winds has funded the cost of a side fold Basketball hoop system and its installation which will allow its students to enjoy basketball and has also maximised space in the school gymnasium.  The addition of the hoops has truly taken their Sports Centre to a whole new level.

These new hoops will also benefit the wider community, as the Sports Centre is regularly used by local clubs and groups, giving them access to top-class facilities that encourage participation and connection through sport.  Their sports centre facilities are also widely used by various external groups, including Counties Manukau Basketball, South Auckland Basketball, and the Indian Panthers.

Rosehill College currently has six basketball teams, each with 12 students. While there is strong interest in the sport and potential to form more teams, growth is limited by the shortage of available coaches. In some cases, senior students step in to coach junior teams.

The addition of the hoops is sure to encourage more students to play in the coming years.

Rosehill College Media Studies: Media Equipment

Earlier in the year, Four Winds also supported the upgrade of the school’s Media Studies department with funding for the purchase of high-quality cameras, microphones and essential film-related supplies.

The Media Studies programme has experienced significant growth. This year, they have 39 students compared to 30 last year, and enrolments are projected to increase to 120 students next year. This expansion is directly supported by the availability of camera equipment, which has enabled students to explore new creative opportunities.

The addition of four iMacs, funded by the school, has allowed students to produce high-quality films and other creative projects. Importantly, the camera equipment is not restricted to Media students; it is available for loan by any department. While the majority of use comes through Media Studies, Social studies, Marketing, this equipment has also supported a range of other activities. Most recently, a couple of students have used this equipment to film cultural performances to record and refine their practise (particularly for their Fiafia Night) and some equipment has been used by the students in their Student Representative and House Leader videos.

Looking ahead, Year 12 Media students will be sharing a series of short films next term, produced using this equipment. From 2026, we also plan to launch a Journalism Club, which will further expand the ways students can benefit from these resources.

“The positive impact of funding here is beyond a few words, as it continues to open opportunities as we evolve”, says Sathya Saravanan, Rosehill College’s Finance Administrator.
