Mt Roskill Intermediate Football Academy

Four Winds have been supporting the Mt Roskill Intermediate Football Academy since 2022 by funding the coaches for the academy.  In that time the academy has grown from 40 kids to 250 kids each Friday.  With a roll of 560, this is almost half of their students.

The growth of the academy was initiated by one of the teachers, Carl who saw a need to get more kids active.

Carl Maskell, now a Deputy Principal at the school and Sports Coordinator says that kids are now more keen to come to school on Fridays in case they miss out on the Football Academy and that he has noticed that the students are more active and football is played every lunchtime.  An increasing number of students are now connecting with a club and notably the number of girls playing football has increased.

Partnerships with Auckland Football Club, Oceania Football Confederation have been established and a FIFA World Club Cup Trophy event was also held at the school.

Due to the success of the academy, the Roskill School’s Community Trust has been created and work will start on a football turf at the school in the coming months.  This will create a world class asset in the heart of Mt Roskill which will be used by the three Campus Schools, Auckland City Football Club and the wider community.  Four Winds has also provided funding towards this project.  We look forward to watching this project’s progress.

On another note, Four Winds recently funded a defibrillator for the school and one of their students had a heart related medical event.  Though the defibrillator was not used, just the fact that it was close at hand meant that the situation was a little less stressful for those involved.
